Learning Across Boundaries: Manifold Extends Its Agent Platform Across Institutions with Rhino Federated Computing

At Manifold, we built our platform so that agents and tools work directly inside a customer's own environment, on their own data, under their own governance. That's made it fast for any single organization to bring its data assets together and put agents to work on them. But biopharma research rarely stops at one organization's walls: the best answers often require learning across a real-world data provider, a diagnostics partner, and an academic data set at once, and most platforms force a choice, centralize everything somewhere new and re-litigate governance from scratch, or analyze each source in isolation and never really combine them.

We think there's a better way: give Manifold the ability to learn across those boundaries directly, without requiring anyone to centralize anything.

Announcing our partnership with Rhino Federated Computing

Today, we're announcing a technology partnership with Rhino Federated Computing to bring federated computing to Manifold's agent platform. Rhino's Federated Computing Platform (FCP) allows customers and partners to reach into environments beyond our own, enabling federated queries and federated model training across siloed healthcare data sets that live in separate organizations entirely, accessed within Manifold’s user interface. The goal is the same governed, agent-driven experience Manifold customers already get inside a single environment, extended across institutional lines.

What the partnership does

Together, Manifold and Rhino give biopharma and research teams a single way to work across data that would otherwise stay locked in separate environments:

  • Query and learn across data assets without centralizing them. Manifold's enterprise agent platform already brings together data, tools, and governed access on a single control plane for each customer, in their own environment. With Rhino's federated computing layer, customers can extend that same control plane across organizational boundaries, so a researcher will be able to run federated queries or train federated models against multiple licensed or partner data sets using Rhino’s FCP, accessed within a single Manifold-powered interface, without any of it leaving its source.
  • Keep governance and compliance intact by design. This isn't a new discipline for Manifold: customers already govern exactly who can see and act on which data set inside their own environment. The intent is for that same principle, access without requiring data to move, to hold across organizations too, since Rhino's approach never requires the underlying data to leave its source. Done well, this gives customers the collaborative reach of a shared research environment without renegotiating custody, security, or data-sharing terms for every new collaborator.

Rhino brings federated computing in production at scale to power that reach: Fourteen of the twenty Newsweek Best Smart Hospitals run on Rhino, alongside multiple of the world's largest biopharma companies and more than 200 deployments worldwide, on a platform certified to SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 and compliant with HIPAA and GDPR. Together, that gives joint customers a faster path from "we have data in different places" to "we have one answer", delivered through the Manifold environment they already work in.

"For a long time, the industry has assumed that collaborating on data means moving it somewhere new. It doesn't have to. Federation leaves the data where it lives and brings the computing to it, so teams can work together without giving up control of what's theirs. That's the piece we're glad to power inside Manifold."
Chris Laws, Chief Commercial Officer, Rhino Federated Computing

Where this goes

We're starting with the teams already asking us for this: Manifold customers who license data through the platform and need to work across sources they can't centralize, with partners, diagnostics providers, or academic data sets that have to stay where they live. As that first wave proves out, we expect the same pattern, with customers using Manifold's governed control plane with Rhino’s FCP to reach across institutional lines, to extend to other data types and collaboration models across the life sciences ecosystem.
