Dr. Surya Ganguli joins Manifold as an Advisor of Deep Learning Methods. Surya is an Assistant Professor of Applied Physics at Stanford University, with courtesy appointments in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Neurobiology. He is also a Visiting Research Scientist at Google at the Google Brain Deep Learning Research group. Surya's work is acclaimed in the deep learning community for advancing our theoretical understanding of the dynamics of learning in deep neural networks and the success in practice of deep learning methods.
His specialties include machine learning, information theory, optimization theory, control theory, Bayesian inference, dynamical systems, statistical physics, and neurobiology.
Surya earned his PhD in Theoretical Physics and a Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley. He also earned four degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), including a Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, as well as Bachelor's degrees in Physics and in Mathematics.
