Joseph Goldbeck has recently joined Manifold as a Data Engineer. In this capacity, he will help clients build production data pipelines to prepare for machine learning and flexibly answering business questions, which can involve migrating from legacy systems to modern, cutting-edge technologies. Joe is a backend engineer with extensive experience leading teams and collaborating closely with business stakeholders.
Prior to Manifold, Joe was a Senior Software Engineer at TetraScience, a life sciences data integration and analytics platform company, where he spearheaded projects for enterprise pharmaceutical companies and served as Technical Lead for their core data integration platform. While there he also led the IoT team through completion and deployment of an application rewrite, improving the stability and security of over 1000 devices across dozens of customers, and made significant improvements to a utilization product that uses time-series power data to report on the use of laboratory instruments.
Before his time at TetraScience, Joe was the Lead Developer at FOLD, an open publishing platform with a unique structure that lets writers link media cards to the text of their stories. Joe led development across the stack, including designing the technical architecture, managing deployments, and integrating code from contributors. He also implemented a custom analytics system to match FOLD's card-based storytelling format. FOLD is used by journalists, educators, and storytellers around the world.
As a former neuroscientist, understanding, transforming, and exploring data is part of Joe's core skill set. At TetraScience, he built on these skills in a modern engineering environment, leading teams and engaging with major biotech and pharmaceutical companies to build tools to automate the capture, transformation, and transport of scientific data. At Manifold, he hopes to carry these skills forward—working with clients to understand and meet critical business needs, while taking on increasingly larger technical projects and challenges, and growing as a technologist and a leader.
“I feel very lucky to be working with exceptionally smart and kind people in a positive environment. The problems we're solving are important to our clients, and my daily work will have an impact on their lives and business,” he says. Joe is also excited about joining Manifold at an early-stage: “It's been inspiring to see the thought and care that's gone into laying the groundwork for a highly-functional high-growth business, and I look forward to making my own contributions along that journey.”
Joe earned his Master of Arts degree in Neuroscience from the University of California–Berkeley, supported by a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, and his Bachelor of Science degree in Brain and Cognitive Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), with awards for outstanding academics and research.
