Dr. Michael Stefferson has recently joined Manifold as a Machine Learning Engineer. He will be building end-to-end machine learning pipelines for Manifold's customers — helping to improve, restructure, or design novel solutions for data-driven problems. Michael has extensive experience in numerical analysis, data science, and software engineering.
Prior to Manifold, Michael was a Data Scientist at Divirod, an environmental services company. There, he collaborated with other team member to design novel fitting routines, implement machine learning algorithms, and streamline the analysis pipeline to allow for remote sensing of soil moisture content. Michael also completed the Insight Data Fellowship. As a Fellow, he contributed to a variety of data projects, including building a custom data pipeline that localized objects in high-res satellite images.
Michael's background in software engineering and machine learning enables him to quickly get up to speed on new and diverse problems. He is excited about the opportunities Manifold presents, saying, “I enjoy the challenge of solving a wide-array of novel data-driven problems across many fields. I love the chance to work on myriad problems with many different customers.”
When he's not working on machine learning, Michael can be found climbing, playing ultimate frisbee, and going on random adventures. He is happiest spending time outdoors but can occasionally be found hosting friends over for dinner.
Michael earned his PhD and Master of Science degrees in Physics from the University of Colorado Boulder. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Physics and Applied Math from the University of Arizona, where he received awards of excellence in research.
